SPF supports Organ Donor Register campaign

The Social Partnership Forum is supporting the campaign to encourage people to join the Organ Donor Register and is encouraging both employers and trade unions to publicise the register.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to save lives. Each year around 3,500 lives are saved or dramatically improved by an organ transplant and every minute of every day someone, somewhere benefits from blood donation.

The need for blood and organs never stops and each day, three people die because there aren't enough organs available. The challenge for NHS Blood and Transplant is to increase the number of donors and encourage people to join the Organ Donor Register.

NHSBT is looking for partners to support them in the task of ensuring everyone in the UK has the opportunity to understand why organ donation is important and knows how they can do their bit.

There are a number of ways in which NHS organisations and trade unions can help. For example, they could include adding an extra box to things like membership forms that encourage people to join the register or raising the issue at induction days.

To find out how your organisation can help please contact Emma Harbour at NHS Blood and Transplant on 0117 921 7275 or email emma.harbour@nhsbt.nhs.uk
